Phytogram Animation

In these hands-on workshops I led the exploration of phytograms, an experimental, camera-less animation technique where plantlife is both the subject matter of the image and assists the means of photographic reproduction. Phytograms* are created by the exposure of black-and-white film overlaid with plant material and dried in daylight or under lights.

Knowledge Exchange Reciprocal Relations: “A touch of before, now and then.”, CFMDC 2022

Presented as part of Reciprocal Relations, CFMDC’s first installation “A touch of before, now and then.” invites you to come, sit, breathe, and listen; at your own pace, on your own time and somewhere between all of us, between the diasporas, the here and the there, the knowing and not knowing, you can create your own sense of process and of the ways in which landscapes are traces. Curated by Franci Duran & Nada El-Omari

Presented works:

Experimental Filmmaking with Found Footage Workshop, the 8Fest Film Festival, 2023

Participants re-purposed and reworked existing Super8 and 8mm film using a variety of tactile analog techniques including painting, drawing, scratching, tinting and toning, bleaching, collaging, contact printing on 16mm film, and processing using conventional and eco-chemistries. Workshop was team-taught with Phil Hoffman.
